Summers Return

Since you left,
I have met in the shadows with lions
Some from Sonia’s house
others from my own wilderness
I have dined, dazzled by the light, with kings.
I have met sages, &
been touched by prophets.
The sun has rose
so has the moon.
Life has been hard,
life has been ordinary,
life has been extraordinary,
& I knew I would see you again.
Knew, like day comes after night
& summer always finds its way again,
& you still got that heat.
I looked at your pictures
a day ago, said your name
to the God that holds love
‘bove the banality of this world,
where it ain’t really been summer
since you left.
