fortune’s door

i have been knocking on fortune’s door

knocking with my strong right hand

prayer is better than sleep

action more divine than prayer

so i knock on fortune’s door

thunder answers rain has fallen

is falling still there has been sugar

i count the blessings remembering

to say why not me never complaining

about the salt never asking why me

i continue to knock on fortune’s door

misfortune has answered but i know

where fortune lives so i continue

to knock fully expecting all good

things in reciprocity for my ewa pele

all good things from the work of my hands

so i knock expecting blessings

refusing to leave before the miracle happens

why not me

i am knocking on fortune’s door

with my strong right hand

blessings are due
